High Performance Manager Stephen Schwerdt will leave the Gold Coast SUNS at the end of the month after accepting a role with the South Australian Cricket Association.

Schwerdt joined the GC SUNS at the end of the 2012 AFL season, after 14 seasons in key fitness roles with the Adelaide Crows.

General Manager - Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft, paid tribute to Schwerdt's contribution at the club.

“Stephen has played an influential role with the club since his arrival in October 2012, and we are incredibly grateful for his support," he said.

“We understand the family's desire to return to Adelaide and we thank Stephen and his family for their commitment and contribution to the Gold Coast Football Club.”

A member of Adelaide’s inaugural squad, Schwerdt played 25 AFL games for the Crows between 1992-94.

He finished his playing career with SANFL club Central District, but returned to Adelaide as Fitness Coach in 1999.

Schwerdt’s imminent departure will see Matthew Kennedy assume the role of High Performance Manager for the remainder of the season.
